Center
Your Center for Equine
Excellence
Right
Lead Equestrian (RLEC) is located in St. Gabriel
(Sunshine) near
Baton Rouge Louisiana,
and offers pasture board,
horseback riding / ground lessons,
clinics, horse training, leases, sales, horsemanship and training
clinics, and transportation.
RLEC
specializes in Combined Training, Eventing, beginner Dressage, Sidesaddle, and training
for Pony Club events. We are a training facility and do not offer "pony
rides" or lease horses by the hour/day. Please email
Michelle if you
would like more information.
STAFF
Michelle Bergeron (owner/manager)
has over thirty years experience with
horses, and is actively showing today. Michelle has a
wonderful coaching disposition and continually challenges riders of all ages and
skill levels. Click on "About RLEC" to the left to learn more.
FACILITIES
RLEC is situated on 15 acres in St. Gabriel,
Louisiana. The property is fenced and cross fenced with 5 foot tall
doweled round pole fence. We have many jumps and are planning several
cross country jumps as well. We have a PVC Dressage Arena from
Premiere Equestrian
set up on some great Bermuda grass turf. Rick built a two story 12 x 24
air conditioned tack room and most recently a concrete covered wash rack. There is ample room to ride and it is only a short
distance to the Mississippi river where long levee rides are possible.
Visit the "About RLEC" link to the left to learn more.
LOCATION
Right Lead Equestrian Center is located on Bayou Paul Lane,
just south of the University Club on Hwy 30 (Nicholson Extension). From
Baton Rouge take Bluebonnet down to Hwy 30 and take a left towards Gonzales.
Approximately 3 miles down you will come to a traffic light which is the Bayou
Paul, Hwy 30 intersection. Take a right towards the river. We will
be 1 mile down on your right.

WHAT'S HAPPENING
(6 months rolling)

11/04 - Michelle is in the news again. This time she
was lucky enough to win a drawing from the Horse Radio Network and a new 2010
World Equestrian Games saddle pad. You can listen to the phone
interview
HERE. |

10/25 - Flashy goes home. Over a year ago we borrowed
Flashy to be the recipient mare for our first Cleveland Bay foal. She has
become a much loved part of the RLEC family, and we really didn't want to give
her back, but it was time for her to go back home. We'll miss you Flashy! |
|

10/19 - We packed up Emily/Ally, Jessica/Lightning,
Katie/Journey, and Katherine/Spirit and made the trek over to Folsom for the
Serenity Dressage Show.
HERE are the photos we shot during the event. |

09/10 - IN MEMORY OF SCARLET - It is with a heavy heart that
we announce the passing of another of our great equine friends. Seventeen
year old Scarlet (owned by the Fenners) started showing neurological signs on
09/06 so we took her to the LSU vet school for care. Unfortunately she did
not get better and had to be put down on Wednesday 09/10. We've erected a
memorial page HERE. All photos
are free for download. |

09/07 - A big thanks to Tina Cope's husband Ben Cope and his
friend (sorry I didn't get your name). Rick was called back to the plant
(Oxy) starting on the 4th and wasn't able to clean up around the house or farm.
Michelle was up at vet school with Scarlet who was sick. Ben and his
friend came out to the farm and cut and stacked several downed trees. We
wish we could have been out there with you guys... but we owe you a big big
Thanks! |

09/03 - Hurricane Gustov was the worst
hurricane event on record here in Baton Rouge with sustained winds in excess of
65 miles per hour and gusts to 91. There were trees and power lines down
everywhere. Michelle and I hunkered down in our house through the whole
thing. We lost several trees but the house sustained little damage.
As soon as the winds died down enough we drove out to the farm. What a
mess, but no one was hurt! We had power poles and lines down in the front
paddocks (the power was out long before the poles fell). Every tree at the
farm sustained damage, several were down, and a couple managed to take out
sections of fencing. Fortunately the trees blocked the horses from
getting out. All indications were that we would be without power for 6 to
8 weeks, but to our surprise and only a couple of hours after hard wiring a
generator into the house three days after the storm (thanks mom and dad in Shreveport) the
power came on! Thanks for the thoughts and
prayers. |

08/22 - We packed up Emma, Lightning, Ally, and Journey and
the girls and made it up to Holly Hill for a cross country schooling clinic by
Amy Connor. Unfortunately Emma was slightly lame when we got there so we
decided not to work her for the weekend. Michelle and Emma audited, but everyone else had a great time.
HERE are some photos we shot today. |

08/05 - Welcome Spirit! In our search for a new lesson
horse we came upon Spirit at Rosebud Farm in Starkville, MS. After some
long discussions with Betsy Ball and Bill Mann, Michelle made the trek to MS to
check him out. He has worked in hunters, has evented, and was a jumper.
More importantly he had also spent time as a lesson horse. Michelle brought him
back to RLEC where he is fitting into the program nicely. |

07/26 - Although the heat was almost unbearable we packed up
Emily and Ally, Rachael and Scarlet, and Katie and Journey and traveled to Storeybrook farms in Gonzales for a schooling show. The girls did well and
the horses did good to get off-site for a change. |

07/05 - Thanks to Denise Clausen who graciously donated use
her horse TJ to our lesson program. We let TJ go back home on the 11th.
Thanks again Denise! |
|

07/05 - A Big Right Lead welcome to our newest boarder
Diana Tooley and her
horse Tucker. Diana is from right here in Baton Rouge and Tucker is a 5
year old TB who retired from racing for about a year now. |

07/03 - IN MEMORY OF CUE - It is with a heavy heart that we
report one of our Right Lead family members has passed. On July 3rd during the
morning feeding Michelle noticed Cue Ball was unable to come up from the field
to eat. He had been kicked only minutes earlier and sustained a compound
fracture to his right front leg. It was just above the knee and the injury was
non-repairable. We have erected a memorial page for Cue
HERE. All
photos are free for download. |

06/29 - Thanks to everyone who made it out to the
Melting
Pot for a short notice barn party. It was kind of weird seeing
everyone dressed in something other than breeches, but we definitely had a great time. |
|
► |
06/11 - Michelle got only one day of rest from the Upperville show before hitting the road again. This time she
gave a
multiple day clinic in Little Rock Arkansas for the Rackensack Pony Club for
ratings. |

06/09 - So what do you do when gas is approaching $4 a
gallon? How about traveling over 3,000 miles round trip to compete at the
Upperville Colt & Horse Show. Michelle and Rick packed up Emma and a ton
of stuff and took the 20 hour drive up there. Thanks to Tracie Traver at
Ridgemor Farm for letting us overnight
at her place so we could break the driving into roughly 10 hour treks.
Tracie/Tally packed up two of their CBs and we all made our way to
Upperville. We arrived at Upperville late Friday and spent Saturday
watching some jumper classes, the sidesaddle classes, and visiting all the
shops. On Sunday we competed in the three Cleveland Bay classes open to
partbreds. Michelle and Emma didn't place in the in hand class, but they
took second in the under saddle class and fifth in hunter hack. Rick
played around taking a couple of pictures of the jumpers and sidesaddle classes on
day one. On day two Rick took pictures of the Cleveland Bay
classes.
HERE are the photos.
HERE are the CB class results. |
