Right Lead Equestrian Trainer, Michelle Barr, is a native of Shreveport, Louisiana. She began her riding adventures at the tender age of five at a fox hunting barn, then eventually became involved in the show hunters. Michelle’s upbringing as the daughter of a now-retired Air Force Colonel, means she brings a wealth of energy, organization, and devotion to her students. In fact, their complete joy in learning and accomplishing things together with their horses is evidence of Michelle’s unique and supportive teaching style.
Michelle competed in high school and in college, where she started (at the time) the only Intercollegiate Horse Show Association in the state of Louisiana. She graduated from the Louisiana Scholar’s College and entertained thoughts of a career as a technical writer in the chemical industry. It wasn’t long before Michelle realized, with great clarity, that her passion was in equestrian sports. She soon became involved with Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intl.), and passed her Registered Instructor Exam with a highly acclaimed score of 99%.
In 1997, Michelle she passed the British Horse Society Stage I and II exams with similar success. In 2002 she tested and became certified with the World Sidesaddle Federation, and is now both a certified instructor and judge with that organization.
As a lover and owner of the great Cleveland Bay breed of horse, Michelle currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Cleveland Bay Horse Society of North America.
If you are a serious or beginning competitor, Michelle happily coaches riders not only from Louisiana, but from neighboring states, too. Travel to events in combined training and dressage are certainly a part of her services, including travel for the winter eventing circuit in Florida.
